A Taste of Seafair

Since moving to the Seattle area we have never been to anything related to Seafair.  It has always been on our to do list but we never quite managed to get ourselves organized.  This year however we are determined to participate a little bit more in some of the fun events the city has to offer.

There are festivities all month but as we were gone the first couple of weeks this is the first weekend we felt we had some time on our hands.  This morning we were checking out what was going and realized today was the night of the Torchlight Parade.  Now with Drew's travel this week, a delayed flight on the way home, and two little ones we didn't feel up for a late night at the parade but instead opted to head downtown for some sneak peeks at the floats and festivities before the parade began.

It turned out to be a perfect outing for our family.  The parade floats were parked where spectators could take a look and the boys loved checking them out.  Their favorites were definitely the Alaska Airlines airplane (we love Alaska Airlines) and the City of Kelowna's Ogopogo lake monster!  Ogopogo looked a little familiar to us and upon talking to the float organizers we realized we also saw this float last year at the Calgary Stampede Parade.

After we headed over to Seattle Center and checked out all of the entertainment...and collected a ton of freebies!   The boys left with sunglasses, wooden hydroplanes to decorate, balloons, snacks, drinks, pirate hats and blow up airplanes.  They were in awe of all the people and festivities.  Sam said afterwards he really enjoyed seeing all the people at the "party".

It was a beautiful day and it was great to get out and do something different.  Next on the list...hopefully the Blue Angels next weekend!

A nice peek at the Space Needle

Had we known we would have brought a change of clothes!

Arrrrrgg matey!

As soon as we got home the boys wanted to decorate their hydroplanes.  Sam wanted to ensure they looked alike so Daddy had to help Cole.
A cool new toy
