Belated Father's Day

Today was a very belated father's day celebration for Drew.  On the 'real' father's day our plans were hindered by a dreary rainy day.  We decided then we would postpone and do Drew's favorite activity on a nicer day and today was simply perfect.

We were out the door early and caught the 9AM ferry to Whidbey.  I think going to the island is one of Drew's favorite things.  In less than an hour we feel like we are on vacation surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest.  We always find ourselves at Useless Bay once we get off the ferry and today was no exception.  We spent the morning looking for crabs and jellyfish, finding (and stomping) on shells and throwing rocks.   The beaches might not be white sand, but there is just so much to explore - the boys just love every minute.

We stopped in at the Bayview Farmer's Market on our way to lunch and indulged in some huge blueberries and an amazing chocolate, marshmallow, peanut baked bar (it didn't last until after lunch - we ate dessert first today).  After that we found a little pizza place for lunch and sat outside in the sun enjoying the view.    By the time we got home this afternoon, we still felt like we had the whole day and enjoyed a family walk, some yard work, Frisbee throwing and barbecuing steak for supper.

Drew is just such a fabulous dad and we are so lucky to have him!

Look at that face - what a monkey!

It was so sunny Sam stole my sunglasses and tried to convince us he was the mom.

Then this one had to join in too and kept Drew's sunglasses on the whole meal

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
