Brave Boys

If we learned anything while we were in Florida it was that our kids have a little bit of "fish" in them.  Who knew a weeks access to a pool would result in such huge strides in our kids love of the water.  Sam has been in lessons since January but probably learned more in our week that he has since starting (and the encouragement of his cousins who have access to a pool in PA helped push him forward too).  The first night we arrived we jumped into the pool before bed and both boys hung on tight.  The next morning, Sam wanted some space and later that afternoon was swimming around by himself.  The day after that he tackled the waterslides - by himself (Cole was obsessed with the waterslide too but dad ensured that there was no way he was going down unattended like his big brother)!  Soon Cole followed suit and didn't want anyone to touch him in the pool as he wanted to swim "by himself."  We were truly spoiled to have our own pool home and also access to the communities water park as well.  It feels like we spent about 75% of our time in the pool but with the high heat and humidity I think it made everyone much happier!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
