27 Weeks

It is hard to believe that we are now at the 27 week mark.  This new baby girl has gotten very little play on our blog and I think it is about time she got some attention too.

I am not someone who overly 'loves' pregnancy, although the results are well worth it.  I have found this pregnancy to be easier than the boys but much more exhausting.  A lot of people say it is because I am chasing around two boys but I really think for some reason it is the nature of this pregnancy.   I am tired all the time and no amount of sleep or rest seems to remedy it.  The funny thing is I better get used to it as I don't see things improving in that area once she arrives!  Other than exhaustion I have had it pretty easy.  No complications, no sickness, and no heartburn (yet...knock on wood).  I have still not made the jump into maternity clothes which I have been able to postpone much longer than I was able to with the boys but foresee that after our trip to Florida next week I might have to make some wardrobe changes.

We are truly beyond excited to meet this new little one and in a strange way feel very ready.  Sam and Cole are very successfully sharing a room which means the baby can go into the nursery and we can still keep our spare bedroom as is.  As we didn't know the gender with Sam, all of our nursery and bedding is neutral and will be used again for this little one.  To top things off after our visit to Calgary we were sent home with some very sweet girl clothes from our friends who are cleaning out the baby stuff after having their last children.  We have all the gear, the boys are working to wrap their minds around having a new baby in the house and our sweet little girl's name is chosen. So now, we wait.

Yet while we wait we continue to pray.  We pray for a healthy and strong little girl.  We also continue to pray for wisdom to know the best way to bring our girl into the world.  Currently, we have decided to try for a VBAC to avoid a repeat c section.  As it stands now I am a good candidate for one as I was able to deliver Sam without a c section UNLESS we have a big baby again.  Sam was touch and go at 8'12 and Cole was definitely a no go at 10'1 so I figure a baby around 8'8 and under would be doable.  I have never tested positive for gestational diabetes (I had my test today - fingers crossed) so it appears that my body just likes to grow big boys so we are curious what that means for a girl.  With that in mind, the plan will be to monitor the babies growth throughout the latter part of the pregnancy.  At 36 weeks my doctor will again give me another ultrasound to ensure the babies size, confirm that the scar tissue from my c section can withstand a VBAC and that the placenta is far enough away from the scar site to avoid any complications.  We hope that we can avoid the recovery of a c section but trust that God knows best and will be praying that he makes it very clear to us closer to the time what the safest option will be.

I am terrible at getting pictures throughout my pregnancy so unfortunately I have nothing for you today.  Maybe before the weekend is up I will get Drew to snap a photo to show the progression of the baby bump!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
