Officially 7

Birthday seems to start early for this one.  He had his birthday weeks ago before school was out and the festivities just continue until his 'official' day.  The one had a great birthday and enjoyed every minute.  His mail goal was to go to the pool and pass the swim test.  At the pool we are members at you can't go into the deep end on your own until you are 7 and have completed the swim test (swim a lap of the pool using crawl stroke and front breathing and tread water for 1 minute).  He was so nervous when we arrived at the pool.  His swim teacher (an 18 year old guy that he really liked and looked up to all summer) happened to be the lifegaurd on duty that day and actually got in the pool during break and did the test with Sam encouraging him all the way.  Sam passed easily and we so excited.  His teacher snuck him an ice cream treat as a reward for passing which made him even happier.  He was thrilled to head off to the deep end by himself after passing.

He requested Pizza Bank for desert as he wanted to do the same thing Cole got to do on his birthday - a trip back into the kitchen to make his own sundae complete with the manager giving him a mouth sundae (aka a mouth full of whip cream)

It's hard to believe this guy is 7 already.  He's just growing so fast.  He's a sweet boy with a fun sense of humor, a sensitive heart and a strong desire to learn and succeed.  He loves all things sports and it has been amazing to watch him develop in this area over the past year.  He runs, hard and plays hard and always likes to be busy doing something.  We are thankful daily for this kiddo and are honored God chose us to be his parents.  Happy birthday buddy!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
