Today is Grandma's birthday (and it is a special one but...I won't say the age :) Sadly we could not celebrate with her today but before we left Calgary we ensured we got an early birthday celebration in before we left.
We had a wonderful supper with Drew's family and my mom at Broken Plate (mmmm.....greek food!). My mom was convinced it was our final dinner (we usually have a big family dinner the night before we leave) and was unaware that it would be a birthday celebration until the waiter brought out her birthday treats that we brought and a balloon. It still took her a minute to realize it was from us and the restaurant didn't just happen to have an 'aged to perfection' balloon in their kitchen.
We had a wonderful meal and a good visit with everyone. Before we left there was one last thing to do...the plate breaking! On special occasions the Broken Plate allows patrons to break a plate before they leave. So Grandma broke her plate to a chorus of "opa!" Sam and the waiter really hit it off and he got another plate for Sam to break as well. I was a little worried about letting my three year throw a plate but he did great and has not asked to break any of our plates at home!
Dessert back home ended the evening. I had forgotten my camera at the restaurant but got a few shots of dessert afterwards. Happy Birthday Grandma!
