While we were back in Calgary, we managed to coordinate a kid free evening with some of our Calgary friends. We always enjoy getting back together with our friends when we are in town but we usually have a huge group of kids running around which makes it hard to fully focus (or finish) a conversation. This year the kids were left at home (a big thanks to the grandparents who dealt with our children and their separation anxiety that evening) and we all met at the Bears Den for some fine dining. They were building the Bears Den the year we left Canada (it was right by the school that I taught at) and we had heard wonderful things about it and had wanted to try it for awhile. The food was awesome but the company was much better. Before long we realized we had been sitting there for over four hours! We truly are blessed to have such wonderful friends back home. Despite the fact that we left Calgary almost 8 years ago, we have kept in touch and are always able to pick up right where we left off. We knew each other while we were dating our spouses, have been to each other's weddings, announced pregnancies, met new babies, and traveled together. It is hard to find friends who know you so well and are so connected too. It was truly a fabulous night.
Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation. Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh. The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating! Couldn't have asked for more fun! A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness! Right before our Owl Walk. We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust! 3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls! It's now a running joke in our home as the tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention. If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
