De Da Doo

For those that did not spend much time with our Cole this past December, this title will appear to be nonsense.  However those that saw him over Christmas will know that De Da Doo is 'Cole speak' for snow monster.  I have no idea how he came up with this phrasing but it has stuck...and become a game in our household.  Sam and Cole both now request to play 'de da doo' (aka snow monster) which essentially means putting a hat/ blanket / hood over your head and chasing two screaming boys around the house.  They wasted no time teaching everyone back at home the game and before you knew it Cole had many variations of his game:

-Bapa (grandpa) de da do
-Bama (grandma) de da do
-Oma de da do
-Mom de da do
-Dad de da do
-Ben de da do (a 10 year old family friend)

But the de da do that was the funniest was Uncle Nathan.  For some reason the first day Cole saw uncle Nathan he called him "A Mami"  Despite the fact the he can kind of say uncle and also can pronounce his 'n's' Nathan was coined A Mami for the rest of the week.  It never got old hearing...

A Mami...de da do!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
