Great Wolf Lodge

When we saw the Great Wolf Lodge Groupon come up again for our area we decided to go for it.  It seemed like our kids were at a prime age to give this a try and they definitely were!

The kids had an amazing time.  Cole was devastated to leave.  He told us on our way home that he didn't want to leave, in fact, he wanted to LIVE at Great Wolf Lodge.  Crazy kid!

We only stated one night and for us that was perfect - we didn't feel like we needed any more time (although I guess Cole would have disagreed - ha).  We arrived as early as was allowable on check in day and were fortunate to get a room early.  The kids were over the moon when they saw their room and loved their kid cabin. We wasted no time getting into the pool and spent a couple of hours at the water park.  It was great fun!  There was something for everyone.  Cole was a little short for the big water slides so for our first day they stuck to a couple smaller slides and the big wave pool.  Eliza and I hung in the toddler area - she loved it!

We headed back to our room for supper and ordered pizza.  Then we headed down to the wand store and the kiddos each picked out a wand. We debated if we should purchase the game but figured for this time, they were young enough to just enjoy using their wands around the hotel.  They loved it.  It was fun wandering around the hotel making magic.

We hit the evening story time at the clock tower.  It was a perfect ending to the day and our kids were exhausted by the end of the night and happily cuddled up in their cabin beds!

The great thing about the lodge is after check out the next morning you are still welcome to stay at the hotel and enjoy the water park for as long as you would like.  We decided to hit the water park at opening when it was quiet.  The day before Cole was less than an inch too short for the big slides so this time around when we had him measured we left his crocs on!  Low and behold he made the cut off and all the boys were able to hit the big slides!  They spent most of the time on the big slides and went back for more after lunch!

We had a great time there and are so glad we went!  I am sure we will be back.  The kids have already stowed their wands away in a safe place so they will be ready again for next time!

They loved their kid cabin!

Hours of fun!

Waiting to meet characters at the clock tower

A family shot

Cole thought the best was opening the treasure chest!

Magic!

A picture after evening storytime.  Eliza had opted for bed over a photo.

Ready to hit the pool again!

She loved this chair.  She had to sit in it every time we went past

They did the slides over and over again

One last visit on our way out

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
