Boating

It was a beautiful September here in the PNW!  It seemed like every weekend was just perfect and we enjoyed being out and about as much as possible before the rain sets in!

On one of our nicest weekends we headed out on our friends Taunia and Bryce's boat with our good friends the Stewarts too.  We packed the kids a picnic and made our way on Lake Washington to Kirkland where after docking and getting the kids settled we ordered some take out for the way home from The Beach House.

It was a beautiful night with clear views of Rainier.  The kids loved tubing their way to Kirkland and just enjoying the ride.

She was a little unsure at first but settled in quickly

Sam, Dorian and Claire...our little first graders!

All the kids (minus Eliza )hitching a ride up front

Tubing!

Eliza stayed off the tub and snuggled instead...but liked getting her toes wet on the boat platform

Drew was in charge of balancing the tube!

We had such a great time.....it was simply one of those nights that you didn't want to end.  Good friends, good conversation, a beautiful Seattle evening and happy kids.  As we made our way down the slew back to our friends house it was dark and quiet and the kids just loved sitting upfront watching the moon and stars.

It was so nice that we did it again the next day!!!

Bryce has a wake surfing company and designs wake surf boards.  Drew has wanted to try to wake surf for ages but it has never worked out.  So Sunday after church we popped on the boat again to get him in the water.  He was coached that it might be tricky to get up if he was used to wakeboarding and that there would be no way he would be able to let go of the rope on this outing.

I was so proud of Drew - he did awesome!  I love that he just has an athletic ability to catch on to things quickly.  After he popped off right away and started cutting into the wave Taunia was shocked and said she had never seen someone do so well their first time up.  Turns out his surfing days gave him quite an advantage.

He got in quite a few runs and after the wakesurfing and even managed to drop the rope a couple times!  The kids were pretty patient while the adults played but by the end were clammering for more tubing so they got their turn for fun too.  It was another beautiful day to be out on the water - big thanks to the McDonald's for taking us out!

Once there was slack on the rope it showed that you were actually surfing without the support of the rope.  This is right before Drew was able to drop the rope!

Cole loved the tube.  He didn't want to get off!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
