The big day has come and gone! Sam is still relishing in the attention that comes from losing your first tooth and will show anyone and everyone his big gap in his smile. He has had a loose tooth since the end of January and we have been waiting to see when it would fall out. A couple weeks ago his best bud realized his tooth was loose too and at school pick up they could both be found wiggling it while they waiting in line. However, one Monday we arrived at school to realize that Sam's friend Carter had lost his tooth the previous day! Sam couldn't believe it because his seemed much looser and after school he was on a mission to get his tooth out. He wiggled it endlessly that afternoon to loosen it up more. While making supper I stopped to check out his progress to see if it had gotten looser and just for fun gave it a tiny pull. Nothing happened and he seemed surprised that I tried to pull it out but said it didn't hurt. I told him I would try again and simply gripped to tooth and lifted it right out with zero effort! I think I screamed and started dancing around the house. Drew was barbecuing and looked in the window to see a lot of jumping around and shrieking from everyone. Sam was thrilled and was excited to see what the tooth fairy would leave him. He got a little sad at the thought of giving his first tooth away so we wrote a note to see if the tooth fairy would leave him his tooth...just this once and sure enough she was pretty accommodating.
That night as we did our tooth fairy duty Sam must have been sleeping light in anticipation because as I reached my hand under his pillow he bolted awake asking if the tooth fairy had come. We lied through our teeth and settled him back down but I needed to go in again to leave the money and a note we wrote on behalf of the tooth fairy. Of course, again as I slipped the coins under his pillow he bolted up and yelled "COINS! I heard coins!" Again we had to convince him that he had to go back to sleep and hadn't heard anything at all. I think with the teeth to come we need to get a little more sneaky! Sam was thrilled when he woke up and found his money under his pillow and has already started in on wiggling his other loose tooth and can't wait to loose that one too.
