Leprechaun Tricks

The night before St. Patrick's day last week we had two very excited boys who were desperate to catch a little leprechaun! The plotted to decide what kind of trap to create.  Cole was pretty go with the flow and was convinced we would catch a little guy but Sam agonized over every detail..right down to whether or not we used real gold coins to lure him or fake ones (it was decided that loonies were best).

We set the trap and were ready to catch us a leprechaun but that sneaky little guy evaded us again.  Much to Sam's relief when he triggered our trap the gold coins fell safely to the bottom so he didn't get to steal our real gold...whew.  However, because we came so close to catch him he left a little treat for the kids.  I guess we will have to be even trickier next year!

Our trap.  All the details were worked out and ready.  It was placed by our rainbow crafts (cause leprechauns LOVE rainbows).  There was a unsteady ladder with a sign that said 'do not climb' (cause we all know leprechauns don't listen and take way too many risks)  A thin piece of tissue paper was placed on the top with coins gently laid on it (cause one step on the paper to get the coins would have our leprechaun fall to the bottom) and to top it off the trap looks like a leprechaun hat (cause that would make them feel right at home and they wouldn't know it was a trap)  Yup, it was well thought out!

The aftermath...some shamrock cookies, a box of lucky charms, a fallen ladder, coins at the bottom of the trap and a little poem created just for us.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
