All About Me!

A few weeks back Sam's name was drawn in his kindergarten class to present his "All About Me" project.  He was sent home with a life sized tracing of his body and told to decorate it with photos and items that would teach the class about him.  It was a huge project and Sam worked diligently every night to add to his poster.  He had photos of his friends, his travels, his family and his interests and even decorate his shirt to look like a Seahawks shirt and put a empty pack of Skittles in his hand to show what his favorite candy was.  He was very proud of himself and was excited to present his poster to the class.  Sadly Drew was out of town and couldn't come but Mom got to go in while Grandma watched Cole and Eliza and got a video of the whole presentation to share with everyone.  Sam did a great job and presented his project very well.  It was hard not to chuckle during the question and answer time as 5/6 year olds can say some funny things!  My favorite comment is when a boy asked Sam what his treehouse looked like.  After Sam told him he didn't have a tree house he chimed in and said "Well, how about I come over and build you one?"  Sam got a few laughs out of his classmates which he loved and was very proud of himself and his work.  I will admit I don't keep every little project of his that comes home but his poster is already tucked neatly away in his memory box....how fun it will be for him to look back at it one day!

I didn't get any photos of the finished product of the presentation - I was too worried about getting a video for Drew - but here are a few photos of him hard at work!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
