Everything is Awesome

Ah...the Lego Movie theme song...Everything is Awesome!  It has been sung in this house A LOT (and it is now mixed in with all the music from the Frozen movie....oh vey!)

A couple weeks ago we caved and Drew took the boys to the Lego Movie for their first movie theatre experience.  We had been hesitant as Sam can be pretty sensitive to movies and we were worried it would be too much for him but after hearing that 'everyone' had seen it and pouring over reviews we decided to go for it.

The boys came home excited but definitely a little zoned out after staring at a screen for the last 1.5 hours.  They went straight into quiet time and by the time they had had some down time they were ready to tell us some of their favorite parts and since then we still sometimes hear them singing the theme song or talking about the movie. There is a huge element in creative building in the movie and since seeing it Sam has been building much more creatively and is pretty proud of some of his projects!

All in all the first movie theatre experience for our boys was a hit!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Packing for 2010

We have started collecting our Olympic gear in preparation for our trip up to Vancouver this weekend! The last Olympics we attended were the Calgary '88 games (Drew even preformed in the opening ceremonies) and we can't wait to be back on Canadian soil celebrating the big event again. Even though Sam is too young to really appreciate the Olympics, we are excited to show him the sights and get lots of pictures so he can look back and hear some good stories. At this point, our gear is ready and the funny thing is Sam has the most Olympic stuff out of any of us! Our family has worked hard to make sure that Sam gets a little piece of Canada even though he is not living there. We know that if Sam grows up in the USA, no one will need to teach him to enjoy his country, but since Canada is so much a part of us, we want to make sure he learns about that bit of him too! So in a few days we will head North and cheer for the home team. However, maybe we do need to get a little piec...
