CA - Day 7

Our last day.  It truly was a great trip and we enjoyed the best of both worlds...seeing family and also just having some time just the five of us.

We headed out early to make the 2.5 hour drive back to San Diego and made it to Uncle George and Auntie Shelia's by 10:30AM.  It was great to spend some time with them and letting the kids run off some energy before our flight home. I am sad we didn't get a picture of us all with them - next time!

Drew had 4 upgrade coupons that had to be used by the end of the year and our flight was eligible so he upgraded us all for the way home.  Seriously spoiled little kids!  It was nice however to have a bunch of extra leg room.  The boys were fabulous on the way home. We had told them if they were going to sit up front they had to be super good.  Eliza was great but just wanted to move.  I spent a lot of time walking Eliza up and down the aisles.  She made a lot of friends, stopping every couple of rows to chat to someone.

Sam loved sitting up in business class.  He totally got it and knew it was something special.  At one point he whispered to me and said "Mom, I feel like a king up here - the king of the air!"

Apparently Eliza was the queen of the air too because when she was not walking around she was sitting in my chair while I knelt beside her. She was so good on the flight but I tell you, I feel like I worked pretty hard to keep her happy!

We are so glad we took this trip - we left CA with so many great memories!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
