CA- Day 1

We still can't believe our trip to CA has come and gone!  We had a wonderful time and are already missing the California sun after coming home to some chilly temperatures.

We flew out of Seattle EARLY on Thanksgiving day.  When we woke the kids at 3:45 they were beyond excited and were all wonderful on the flight.

After getting all our gear and our car we went directly to Uncle George and Auntie Shelia's home.  Their hospitality during our stay was amazing and we loved visiting with them - Thank you Luikens!  The boys picked up right where they left off from when we were there two years ago - playing in the yard with Marzi and checking out the Hess and Matchbox trucks.

We were soon joined by Uncle Nathan, Grammy and Brian and Auntie Pat and the 'Big boys' started rolling out of bed and we enjoyed visiting with everyone.

Later in the afternoon we went to check into our hotel on the Naval base.  I still can't get over the view from our room and the proximity to the beach - absolutely stunning.  Cole was dying to walk on the beach so away we went...with strict instructions - do not get wet.  I should have known better. Both boys were soaked and covered in sand in no time at all.  Eliza had no interest what so ever in getting her toes wet - or even sandy for that matter! She stayed nice and dry with Grammy and I watching her crazy brothers.

We returned to the Luikens later that evening for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and the boys enjoyed hanging out with the 'big boys' and goofing around with them.  Danny and Jacob were both home and Danny had brought a few friends from College with him and the boys in awe.  They thought it was so cool to hang out with them.

The kids were pretty happy (and thoroughly exhausted after their early morning) when we tucked them in that night...they were asleep in seconds!

The view from our room - stunning!

They couldn't wait to get to the water

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
