CA- Day 3

Our first day in Palm Springs!  It was a busy day (we hadn't quite slowed down yet and settled into vacation mode).  We packed a ton into our day...touring around our hotel, getting soaked in the hotel's bouncy house, lunch at an outdoor market, taking in the hotel's petting zoo and reptile show, swimming, In N Out Burger and the Living Desert Zoolights.

Whew...It was a busy day.  The kids had a great time but were all bagged by the end of the day.  We determined the next day would have to be a much slower pace!

Eliza doing some early morning reading.  I love this picture of her - so sweet!

I love seeing Christmas trees and palm trees together

They had a bouncy house set up for the kids.  We realized too late that they had hosed it down the night before and it was soaked!  It became a huge slip and slide and the kids went crazy in it and got completely soaked!  We returned here multiple times during our stay.

Eliza just watched the bouncy house fun

A petting zoo!  The hotel brought in a petting zoo for the kids.  Scooter the tortoise was a big hit.

Eliza was thrilled with the ducks and kept quacking at them.

We were all excited for a dose of In N Out Burger.  It was the kids first time and they were not disappointed!

The Zoo lights!

Santa! We had no idea that Santa would be here - the boys were thrilled...Eliza not so much.  She likes to talk about Santa and tries to 'ho ho ho' but she keeps a safe distance between her and the big guy.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
