CA - Day 2

We wanted to stay around San Deigo for most of the morning the next day to have some extra family time and do most of our drive to Palm Springs during Eliza's nap time.  We enjoyed being outside most of the morning playing around at the park and checking out the beach.  We headed back over to the Luiken's later that morning where we enjoyed hanging out with everyone again and eating seriously the best Mexican food ever!

The boys enjoyed a couple games of croquet, a lot of running around and teasing the 'big boys.'  However, we knew it was time to go when Eliza started stumbling all over the house and the boys were both in tears after getting a little too crazy wrestling guys more than double their size.  It was time to hit the road.

The kids were all asleep within minutes and we enjoyed some peace and quiet for the majority of our way up north.  The day flew by and after arriving and a quick Costco and Trader Joe's run we were tucking our tired kids into bed.

Yup, we were up early enough to catch the sunrise!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Packing for 2010

We have started collecting our Olympic gear in preparation for our trip up to Vancouver this weekend! The last Olympics we attended were the Calgary '88 games (Drew even preformed in the opening ceremonies) and we can't wait to be back on Canadian soil celebrating the big event again. Even though Sam is too young to really appreciate the Olympics, we are excited to show him the sights and get lots of pictures so he can look back and hear some good stories. At this point, our gear is ready and the funny thing is Sam has the most Olympic stuff out of any of us! Our family has worked hard to make sure that Sam gets a little piece of Canada even though he is not living there. We know that if Sam grows up in the USA, no one will need to teach him to enjoy his country, but since Canada is so much a part of us, we want to make sure he learns about that bit of him too! So in a few days we will head North and cheer for the home team. However, maybe we do need to get a little piec...
