He's 3!

We were awoken this morning by a very excited boy hobbling into our room saying "I'm three today!"

It's hard to believe that Cole is celebrated his third birthday today.  It doesn't seem that long ago that we were meeting our sweet boy in those early hours on June 15th, 2010.  We of course were head over heels for him the first moment we laid eyes on him.  He is such a fun loving, easy going, goofy little boy.  He has an infectious laugh and loves to make others giggle.  He looks up to Sam and wants to be just like him but is also content to do his own thing and is very independent.  He dotes on Eliza and loves it when she gives him a kiss or giggles at one of his silly dances. He is sweet, sensitive, creative and just plain wonderful!  We are so thankful God gave him to us!

We had a wonderful day celebrating with our little man.  The local fire station was having a pancake breakfast and we took the opportunity this morning to grab a pancake, watch some firefighters in action and hang out in a fire truck.  Cole got a lot of attention from the firefighter and paramedics due to his cast and Sam made sure they all knew that it was also his birthday as well.  We also opened presents and played with his new toys, took a trip to Costco and ate enough samples to tide us over until supper, snacked on cupcakes from Grandma, and went out for supper.  It was a great day and tonight we tucked in a pretty content three year old.

Our three year old!

Cole did not waste any time blowing out his candles.  He has been wanting to do this for weeks.

A second dessert...you can never have enough birthday treats!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
