Father's Day

Simply said - we are just so blessed!  It does not take a hallmark holiday of Father's Day for the kids and I to realize what a great dad Drew is. We are thankful for him every day - not just one Sunday a year.  Drew is just amazing.  He is a phenomenal father.   As I didn't grow up with a father I just love watching Drew's relationship with the kids - it shows me what a father / child relationship is supposed to look like.

He is such a hands on dad.  Even after a long day at work he is ready to wrestle with the kids after supper (yes, even Eliza gets in on that action).  bath the boys while I put Eliza to bed and be there for books, songs and prayers at the end of the night.  He has been by Cole's side during Sunday school while he has been in his cast so Cole could go to his class, he has worked with Sam to help him ride his new bike, and is always able to get a smile out of Eliza, even during her crankiest moments. I couldn't ask for more!  There is no one else in this world that I would want to take this journey of parenthood with. Happy Father's Day Drew!

After church today we decided to go check out the Ballard Locks and Fish Ladder with the kids.  It was actually really interesting and we all enjoyed watching the boats and seeing the fish.  I never realized the complexity of sock eye Salmon.  Today we watched them stop and swim in circles at level 18 of the Fish Ladder as they made their way upstream.  Apparently they will do this for 4-6 hours as their bodies change so they can leave their salt water home and enter fresh water to spawn.  Even after seeing the fish the boys kept asking where the ladder was - I am pretty sure they were still expecting to see fish climbing up a household ladder.

Drew and his kiddos!

We ran into Sam's best bud at the Locks.  They were beyond excited to see each other!

 "Where is the ladder?"

Viewing the fish swim in circles at the Fish Ladder.

By the end Eliza was fed up with the stroller but perfectly content on Drew's shoulders

As we left we walked past a little car show that had some amazing old cars.  We had to get a photo with the Rolls Royce!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
