Three Months

While we were back in Calgary our little girl turned three months old!  Amazing how fast she is growing!  Eliza continues to develop her own little unique personality.  She has changed a lot in the past month and although she is still very strong willed and determined she has mellowed quite a bit.  The stomach issues seem to have passed and she seems much more comfortable.  Although this little monkey still has very strong opinions (still not a fan of her carseat although she traveled fabulously during the long drive to Calgary) she is relaxing more and becoming a pretty happy little girl.

She loves to smile - especially in the mirror or at her brothers when they are doing some crazy dance to get her attention.  She has the sweetest giggle and loves to be tickled.  She is cooing so much.  Much more than the boys ever did and loves to have little conversations with anyone who will listen.  She is eating well and I am quite certain she is gaining well - you should see the rolls in her legs!  She has rolled over a few times from her stomach to back but is currently desperately trying to roll over from her back to her stomach.  She tries so hard and I think it is driving her crazy that she can't!  She always wants to move or stand...she reminds me of Sam in that way and he was an early walker so I am preparing that she might follow suit. I think her most favorite thing every is her bath.  She could be crankier than ever or even hysterically screaming but the minute you lay her down on the bathmat she stops.  By the time you run her tub she is all giggles again and loves to splash away. As a result she gets a bath every night.  It is one of her best times of the day!

She had been sleeping quite well but has just exchanged one cold for another and is up much more as she is so congested.  She is also working hard to break through her swaddle at nights, however, of course once she gets out of it, she is in constant motion and can't settle back into sleep unless re swaddled. Silly girl.

She truly loves her brothers and they adore her.  Recently Sam told me that Dad gets the most conversations out of Eliza but he gets the most smiles.  He is probably right.  He is always there trying to entertain her and she loves it.  Cole tries too but doesn't have the patience to wait it out for a smile but is still thrilled with her and tells everyone that he loves his new baby sister.  We couldn't have asked for a smoother transition for the boys.

She is just such a sweet little thing and in our opinion cute as a button!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
