Maui - Day 3

On the agenda for day three?  The Maui Ocean Center!  The boys were excited to go and check out all the sea creatures.  The place was fabulous...small enough to be very manageable for little ones but interesting enough to hold their attention for the morning.  The highlights were definitely the sharks (especially the hammerhead).  They also really enjoyed the 'please touch' area and spent a lot of time checking out the starfish and sea cucumbers.  Sam in true character took a lot of prompting to touch anything while Cole dove right in.  Eventually after a lot of 'pushing' Sam started touching and of course then thought it was the best thing ever.  Crazy boy.  Rain was in the forecast that day but it turned out to be a perfect sunny day which was great as a lot of the center was outdoors.  Eliza slept the whole outing after having a major meltdown when we arrived.  The girlie got so incredibly sick the day before we left on this trip and this day was the peak of her illness.  Poor thing.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Packing for 2010

We have started collecting our Olympic gear in preparation for our trip up to Vancouver this weekend! The last Olympics we attended were the Calgary '88 games (Drew even preformed in the opening ceremonies) and we can't wait to be back on Canadian soil celebrating the big event again. Even though Sam is too young to really appreciate the Olympics, we are excited to show him the sights and get lots of pictures so he can look back and hear some good stories. At this point, our gear is ready and the funny thing is Sam has the most Olympic stuff out of any of us! Our family has worked hard to make sure that Sam gets a little piece of Canada even though he is not living there. We know that if Sam grows up in the USA, no one will need to teach him to enjoy his country, but since Canada is so much a part of us, we want to make sure he learns about that bit of him too! So in a few days we will head North and cheer for the home team. However, maybe we do need to get a little piec...
