Our last day! We had a fun morning saying ' goodbye' to a lot of our favorite places and getting packed up. Before we knew it, we were en route to the airport.
However, about 10 minutes from the airport we received a text from Alaska Airlines that our 2PM flight was delayed until 11PM! Seriously! Both Drew and I looked at each other with looks of dread and started forming a game plan. We pulled into a McDonalds by the car rental return and got the kids some lunch while we started making some calls to the airlines. After determining that a crew member was sick and they did not have a replacement until 11PM we knew there was no chance we were getting out early so the next call was to the car rental to extend our rental to that evening. The next, was to the owner of the condo to see if there was any way to get back in for the day.
The owner told us that no one would be in the unit until Thursday and told us we could go back if we 'avoided' the property manager so he didn't see us and push her to charge us for the extra day. She mentioned that she had felt awful that the condo wasn't clean when we arrived and mentioned that if she did this for us free of charge, could we forget about that incident and write her a good review on VBRO? Sure thing!
We made our way back to the condo and got all three kids to sleep as we knew we were in for a long night. Fortunately they all napped for a few hours. By the time they got up all there was left to do was have supper, watch another sunset (and blow the conk shell), go for a little walk and hang out in the unit until it was time to go. On our way to the airport we stopped to share a huge shave ice as a special treat and then made our way to drop off our car.
The kids did great with the change of plans. Eliza held it together until we were boarding and then melted down. However, as soon as we were in our seats she ate and promptly fell asleep for the rest of the flight. The boys were awake until we took off and then instantly fell asleep. Drew and I of course didn't get any sleep but the flight went quickly and before you knew it we were landing.
Despite a few bumps we had a wonderful trip and are so glad we went. The best thing is that we just received an apology from Alaska about the delay and they issued us four $350.00 vouchers for use in the next year! So now we can think about our next adventure!
