Maui - Day 1

We made it!

Our first flight as a family of 5 went off without a hitch and all three kiddos were fabulous on our 5.5 hour trek across the pacific to Hawaii.  There is no better feeling than to step off the plane and feel the warmth of the Hawaiian sun!   We arrived in the afternoon and set off to get our bags, pick up our car and find our condo.

By the time we arrived in Kihei the crew was getting a little tired - especially Eliza.  We were looking forward to getting in and getting her settled down.  However, upon walking into our condo I felt my heart sink.  It was clear that the condo had not been cleaned from the previous guests.  So onto plan B.  Luckily we got a hold of the owner and she was able to contact the cleaning lady and property manager to get us into a different unit while ours was being cleaned.  She felt terrible for the mix up as for some reason her condo did not get on the list of units that needed to be cleaned.  So with time to kill we hit the pool (we had a 4 year old dying to get wet) and ordered in pizza.

By the time supper was over, our condo was clean and everyone was exhausted and ready for bed.  Before settling in early we snapped a quick photo of what would be our view for the next eight days.  So beautiful!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
