SeaWorld

With so many things to do in San Diego it was hard to narrow it down to just one. However, as we only had one day and wanted to do something both boys would really appreciate we decided to explore SeaWorld (it was so hard to pass up DisneyLand, Lego Land and the San Diego Zoo - we will definitely need to go back!)

The boys had a great time. Our length of stay at the park totally hinged on if we could get Cole to take a quick nap during the fun as we knew Sam could skip his but Cole would be a different story. Thankfully he fell asleep during one of the shows and woke up 40 minutes later refreshed and ready to go.

We had a great time and were able to see Shamu, feed Sea Lions, relax with sea turtles, watch dolphins and sharks and gawk at the walrus (those things are massive!!!) The boys had a wonderful time and to top everything off they had an early Halloween trick or treat program and we left the park with a bag full of candy!

We were not brave enough to sit in the 'splash zone' so we opted for higher seats!

This turtle exhibit is the most relaxing place in SeaWorld. So pretty!

Sam fed this guy. It took him a bit to get into the 'picking up slimy dead fish' to throw at this guy but once he did he filled this Seal's tummy.

Cole loved the Walrus. This picture doesn't even come close to capturing how BIG he is.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
