Walking With A Limp

If you were to pick the worst week for me to do a number on my knee...this would be the week.  Drew didn't even believe me when I texted him and told him that I had fallen down the stairs while carrying Eliza and couldn't get up or walk.  As this is the worst week for me to be out for the count he was convinced it was a joke (I've got a ninja party to host for goodness sakes!)  But unfortunately, it's no joke.  Eliza is perfectly fine thankfully but my knee has seen better days!  Fortunately it seems to be improving every day - I can at least walk on it and I have Grandma in town for extra help!  The doctor seems to think I did something to my meniscus but couldn't fully assess my leg at the appointment due to pain.  I left with instructions to get a brace, and rest, elevate and ice my leg as much as possible.  I have to go in next week to follow up to make sure they aren't missing anything but my hope is that I will be in pretty good shape by then.

Aside from the party planning that I have to finish up my next biggest concern was making my desperately needed hair appointment! There was no way that my knee was going to keep me from it and despite Grandma's horror I drove myself to my appointment less than 24 hours after I fell.  Maybe not the best choice as it was my right leg...but hey - my knee might feel crummy but my at least my hair feels great.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
