On To First Grade!

It's hard to believe the year is over already!  Sam finished his last day of kindergarten yesterday and is officially off for summer!   He teacher had a little presentation ready for the parents complete with a song titled Kindergarten Lovin' to the tune of Summer Nights in Grease.  It was adorable - we got some good videos!  She also handed them out 'candy' awards - Sam's was a starburst - for being a star worker in all areas.  To celebrate after class we went with a few friends to McDonald's and let the kids play a bit.  Sam mentioned he was going to be sad to not get to see his friends everyday - I think we will be doing a lot of park summer playdates!

We are so proud of how well Sam has done this year and how well he has adjusted to school life.  His reading and writing are simply amazing - he has just learned so much this year.  So now a little break and then off to first grade he goes.  It's a little crazy to think he will be gone from us for a full day - I have a feeling we will all miss him but he is definitely ready for this new adventure.  Congrats our little kindergarten graduate!

Looking older than he was 10 months ago!

Everyone was excited to take Sam to his last day

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
