Before Eliza turned one we racked our brains to figure out what to give her. With the boys they each got a special gift that we hope they will keep with them in years to come and show their children one day. Sam got his special fire truck and Cole got his race car but what to give the girl of the family? We debated an adorable little pink ride on like the boys have but just don't have the need for more riding toys in this house so we opted for an American Girl Bitty Baby instead. Eliza loves dolls and even though she is still a little young for a Bitty Baby we hope it will grow with her and she will keep is for years to come as her first doll. She was beyond overwhelmed when we took her into the store and just kept pointing in amazement at all the dolls. We picked one just for her - blonde hair and blue eyes and she held the box the whole way home! She was thrilled to open it up and was fascinated with the eyes that opened and closed and the eyelashes. She kept it close the rest of the day and would cry 'no' if the boys tried to take it from her. That night she fell asleep holding it's hands. We think it was the perfect gift for a very special birthday.
Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation. Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh. The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating! Couldn't have asked for more fun! A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness! Right before our Owl Walk. We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust! 3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls! It's now a running joke in our home as the tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention. If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
