One

One. Our little boy is one. It truly is hard to believe. It seems cliche to say it but it truly feels like it was just yesterday we were meeting him for the first time. Simply put he is just a sweet little fellow. We are honored that God has entrusted us with him.

It is just so fun to watch him learn and grow. It seems he does something new every day. Cole loves to...

~Read - he loves his book Brown Bear Brown Bear by Eric Carle and will carry it to us to read to him. We think a replacement is needed as the back page has been torn off due to all of the 'love'

~Dance - the kid has moves. He loves to dance and he is good at it!

~ Laugh - he has the best laugh, it is simply contagious. It is pretty easy to make this guy laugh and smile. He is just a happy kid.

~ Cuddle - despite the fact that he is walking everywhere he still likes to take breaks for a cuddle here and there.

~Play - Cole loves to play. He watches Sam carefully and really works to imitate him. He loves 'zooming' his cars around the floor just like his big brother.

For his birthday today we had a simple, peaceful time
together complete with some playtime at Barnes and Noble, an afternoon walk, presents, supper as a family and ice cream down by the lake. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
