Better Late Than Never

On Tuesday night Drew and I were tidying up the toy room after putting the kids to bed.  Drew looked at the spare bed and mentioned that he thought it would be awhile before we would have any visitors again.  Literally 20 minutes later Nathan called and told us he had a flight on hold and was coming out west - two days later!  Yippee!

He got in late Thursday night and when we got up Friday morning we made a spur of the moment decision to head to Whidbey.  When Nathan was here for his sabbatical he really wanted to go the island but we never had the chance so we figured it was better late than never and raced around to catch the 9AM ferry.

We had a great day hitting all our our usual stops - the beach, the castle park and Langley for a little lunch and shopping.  The kids loved the beach and got completely soaked!  They loved playing the in the water and next time I won't mess around and will just put them in bathing suits from the get go.  It was a good thing that I brought a change of clothes for them!  We hit a local pizza place for lunch in Langley and sat outside and enjoyed the amazing view.  It was the perfect day and everyone was sufficiently tired by the time we got home!

Daddy and his boys

This little girl loved having her toes in the sand and tidal pools around the beach.

Look mom - I'm soaked!

Swings!  Her favorite

She is hungry...now!

On the ferry home.  I opted to sit in the car with a sleeping baby while the boys ran around the ferry

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
