The 4th

We didn't let the fact that Drew was out of town in Detroit slow us down this year!  It was a busy day starting with the Bothell Parade with friends.  I had no intention of hauling three kids to the parade by myself but in a moment of inspiration I thought I would give it a go - and it was well worth it!  We only stayed for the children's parade as Eliza was getting fussy and Oma was arriving to visit from Vancouver but the kids had a blast (they threw candy - what could be better?)

After lunch and a little quiet time for the boys and nap for the girlie we went to the Gilfillan's who graciously hosted Oma, the kids and I for a 4th of July BBQ.  As I am not used to celebrating the 4th it was fun to get into the action this year and truly celebrate. The kids had a ball and went home tired and happy.  A highlight for them was the sparklers before we left.  As our kids don't stay up as late as their friends we did a few in the light so the boys could experience them.  They talked about them the whole way home...we know these will be a must for next year!

Our sweet boys first day without his boot - mama was totally paranoid every step he took!

She was a pretty happy camper

I was a little worried our brave Cole would get too curious with these but he played it safe.

He looks less than impressed but he LOVED them.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
