Wormy Wednesday

This past week was wormy Wednesday at Sam's school.  He was so excited and came home full of fun facts about worms, wormy artwork and some wormy math.  His teacher had told the children they could bring worms in for their class and he really wanted to bring some.  However, Drew was leaving to go to New Jersey for the week so I knew that if Sam was going to go to school with worms, Drew would need to help him dig them up before he left (worm hunting is not my area of expertise).  The Sunday Drew left, the boys, Drew and Nathan went out and found three perfect worms.  Now, I just needed to keep them alive until Wednesday.  We checked on those worms every day and by Wednesday they were still wiggling around and Sam happily trotted off to school with his worms.

Eliza and I came out to show our support.  In fact, the boys were having trouble finding them until I suggested to look under some rocks.  I might not dig them up myself but I know a thing or two about worms. 

 We've found some!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Packing for 2010

We have started collecting our Olympic gear in preparation for our trip up to Vancouver this weekend! The last Olympics we attended were the Calgary '88 games (Drew even preformed in the opening ceremonies) and we can't wait to be back on Canadian soil celebrating the big event again. Even though Sam is too young to really appreciate the Olympics, we are excited to show him the sights and get lots of pictures so he can look back and hear some good stories. At this point, our gear is ready and the funny thing is Sam has the most Olympic stuff out of any of us! Our family has worked hard to make sure that Sam gets a little piece of Canada even though he is not living there. We know that if Sam grows up in the USA, no one will need to teach him to enjoy his country, but since Canada is so much a part of us, we want to make sure he learns about that bit of him too! So in a few days we will head North and cheer for the home team. However, maybe we do need to get a little piec...
