Big Boy

Oh my.  Cole is just growing up too fast.  Ever since he gave up diapers a couple months ago he has just 'looked' older.  Now all I hear is how he is a big boy like Sam and wants to be just like Sam.  He is going through a big independence push and wants to do everything by himself and copies everything Sam does.  Don't get me wrong..I am not complaining about this newfound independence...it is just crazy to see him growing up.

Today was another big step for Cole.  Today he started swimming lessons.  Sam has been doing lessons weekly since last January and Cole has come every time and cheered his brother on.  In the last few weeks he has been bugging me to put him in and last week the instructor helped us work out the scheduling and this week he was in the water.

Boy oh boy he was so much braver than Sam was!  I guess all that watching from the sidelines paid off.  Sam cried for weeks for 'mom' while in the pool but Cole marched over and hopped in the pool.  The first comment I heard from him was "oh the water is chilly!"  The second comment I heard was "this is so fun!!!"  He listened so well, giggled the whole time and was oh so brave.

Our big boy was just so proud of himself.  He was all smiles and was excited to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate after.  We are just so thrilled for him!

It's blurry but I couldn't resist putting it up - look at him jump right on in.

Mackenzie didn't even have to tell him what to do...he has watched Sam and knows the drill.

 Cole's little cheerleader.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
