Sick Day

Sam and I are taking a sick day today. Over the last couple of days Sam has had a little cough but over the last 24 hours it has really developed into a yucky deep cough. Poor kiddo. We had planned to go play with his friends Finn and Addison but after hearing him when he woke up we had to put our play date on hold. After talking to the nurse line it was clear that we just had to wait it out - as long as Sam isn't having problems breathing this will just have to run it's course. I sometimes find it hard to keep a sick toddler entertained and this time it is even more so since Drew is traveling and we are still on our own until Sunday evening! I had to pull a lot of tricks out of my bag this morning! One of those tricks was some water time at the sink. Sam had a blast and enjoyed completely soaking my kitchen (and himself). I felt like I was taking a layer of clothing off him every few minutes! Here are some pics of the entertainment.

Oh, I knew he would love it and he will want to do it all the time. Just like you. So cute. Hope he feels better tomorrow. Love "Macca"

That does look like fun... my brother and I used to use straws and blow massive bubbles in the sink. I remember it very fondly.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
