This Christmas, we made the bold decision to drive back to Calgary rather than fly. After driving 40+ hours across the country what is a mere 12 hours? We knew the drive could be truly beautiful or terribly scary but we took the chance. We broke the trip into two days to avoid driving in the dark. There were definitely a few stretches where we held our breath and prayed but all in all, the driving was good and God protected us as we wound our way to and from Calgary. We took a few pictures as we drove downhill of the Rogers Pass. For us, it doesn't matter how many times we are in the mountains, each time we are struck again with the beauty and majesty of God's creation. We are so thrilled to be back near the Rockies. It just feels like home when we are in them and we have so many great memories of our time there. We were able to reminisce of our engagement at the top of Johnston's Canyon, our first anniversary at Emerald Lake, our countless trips to Banff and Kananaskis, skiing Sunshine and Big White, house boating on the Shuswap and driving the curvy roads to Vancouver. The pictures really don't do justice of how beautiful the Rockies are, they never really do.

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation. Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh. The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating! Couldn't have asked for more fun! A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness! Right before our Owl Walk. We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust! 3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls! It's now a running joke in our home as the tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention. If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
