Ms. Babb

Ms. Babb is a VERY special teacher and let's just say she has won the hearts of the Hiller household!

Cole has multiple teachers as he rotates rooms in preschool and there are different teachers in each room.  However, he has developed a special relationship with Ms. Babb.

They just love each other, and they just get each other.

One day Cole came home from school and told me that he spanked his teacher on the butt.  I gasped in horror and he responded "don't worry mom, it was Ms. Babb. She totally get's it"  I saw Ms. Babb later that week and began my apology and she laughed and said "oh that Cole - I totally didn't mind, I get it"

As I said - they just get each other.

Anyways Cole has been obsessed with Skylanders.  They got the game for Christmas and now he eagerly awaits the weekend for when he can play video games.  Apparently one day he was telling Ms. Babb about Skylanders and they had quite a discussion about it at school.  He came home that day and told me that Ms. Babb was going to buy him a Skylander.  "Of course she won't" was basically my response but he insisted she said she would So much so that when a packaged arrive later that day he was convinced it was from her and was heartbroken when it wasn't. I spent the next couple of weeks prepping him for the fact that a Skylander would not arrive for him from Ms. Babb

However, a few weeks later I was chatting to Ms. Babb and she took me aside and told me that she had told Cole that she wanted to get him a Skylander (all this time I thought Cole was just imagining things - I guess I was wrong - he was right!)  She said they were joking about which one she would buy him if she did and he got very serious and said. "Ms. Babb, if you do buy me a Skylander can you please put Sam's name on the box so he doesn't feel left out"  Well she said that just melted her heart and a few days after our conversation a packaged arrived...addressed to Cole AND Sam.

Well, I thought she had just sent one Skylander but no, she sent one for Cole (the exact one he has been longing for), one for Sam, a pony for Eliza and chocolates for mom and dad.  Wow.  Just wow.

I am still in a bit of shock.  I don't think Cole (or I) will ever forget Ms. Babb.  It is above and beyond what I would ever expect from a teacher. I really don't even think it was about the Skylander (although he brings it with him everywhere he goes) but I really do think they just have a special bond and this just was an expression of that.

Now we just have to think of a very special way to say thank you! Any ideas?

What a sweet note!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
