Two Countries

The first week of July always brings two celebrations from two different countries.  On July 1st we celebrated Canada day with a morning of Canada crafts and some outdoor fun.

A few days late on July 4th we celebrated Independence Day.  We hit the Bothell Parade, went bike riding at the park, BBQ'ed and had some fun with sparklers and celebrated Sam and Grammys' birthday a bit early.

Grammy gave the boys a little patriotic face paint before the parade

Getting ready for the parade and it good candy catching positions

The Seafair pirates made an appearance

Off to the park.  She wanted to walk with daddy instead of ride in the stroller

Happy early birthday to Grammy and Sam!

waiting patiently for a turn

Even though sparklers are much better at night our three no nappers and early risers can't stay up that late but they sill had lots of fun waving their sparklers around.

Eliza of course wanted to hold it herself - little independent girl

Trying to blow it out

The next night we went over to a friends house and continued the sparkler party...and added a few...um...shall we say illegal fireworks to the mix.  The kids LOVED it!  Sam told us that he wished every day could be the July 4th weekend - fireworks and upcoming birthday - what else could be better?

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
