Calgary Bound

It's already come and gone but it's never too late to post pics...especially when it's about our most recent trip back "home" to Calgary.  It's always a great trip in the summer and this year was no exception. We had a great time, got to enjoy Grandpa's retirement party, visit with family and catch up with our friends.  The kids had a great time too.  This trip was the first time it seemed we were emerging out of the baby stage.  Eliza is just growing up so fast and is much more capable of heading out on some adventures.  Here are some pics of our short but sweet time back in Canada.  Be warned - there are a lot of pictures!

Ready to go!  Our kids love flying and this will probably be our last trip before little miss gets a seat of her own!

Uncle Nathan arrived in Calgary a few hours before us!  The kids were so excited to see him!

We had to make a stop at Bass Pro Shops....it's always good fun for the kids and pretending to ride the quads is always a hit!  Everyone got in on the action - even Uncle Nathan!

As we checked out Cross Iron Mills these two decided to hold hands....it was so sweet!

These two wanted to play this game so badly!  It took a few minutes to get some Canadian Quarters to give them a round!

And the big event that we came for!  The Retirement / Transition party for Grandpa! The kids came so they could be introduced.  It was very sweet because as Grandpa was introducing the family Eliza called out for him and ran into his arms to be held.  It was perfect timing!

After Grandpas introduction my job became to keep the kids quiet during the speeches.  Luckily this little guy appeared outside and I took the kids out for a little run.

While we were back we had the chance to catch up with many friends.

Catherine and I have known each other since 5th grade.  It's so fun to see our kids playing together.  Too bad Savian was still at school - we missed seeing him!

The next night was pizza with the Cheeman's, Bierman's and Southorns!  It's so nice to get everyone together - we miss this crew and it's fun to see all the kids hanging out together!

As we usually drive we never feel like getting back in the car and driving out to the mountains but this time we decided a day in Banff was in order.  We are so glad we made time for this.  It was such a nice day and we managed to get some sun between the rain for the times that we wanted to be outside.  Our time started with a picnic before taking a little driving tour (while Eliza napped and it rained) followed by a trip up the gondola at Sulphur Mountain, a walk down the main strip in Banff, time at the Banff Springs Hotel and a fabulous dinner at the Waldhaus.

A little picnic Yoga...patience!

The view - it's so beautiful - it almost looks unreal!

It was a long day...it didn't take long for the three of them to fall asleep on our way home from the mountains!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
