Six!

How is it possible that our oldest boy is six?  Two weeks ago we celebrated this little guys birthday and I still sometimes look at him and wonder when he became such a boy.  I know in the grand scheme of things six is still pretty little but he has grown up so fast over the last year.
He looks older.  His legs are so long and lean now and he's so fast.
He acts older.  His interests and interaction with his friends are more grown up.
He sounds older.  His vocabulary and reading amaze us daily.
He thinks older.  He is more aware of what is around him and his part in the world

We are so thankful for our little guy. Thankful that God used him to to jumpstart our family and be our firstborn.  We are so thankful for his kind, sensitive heart, the way that he looks out for his brother and sister, his silly sense of humor, his curious mind, his love of learning and most importantly his growing relationship with God.  Happy birthday Sam - we love you!

We started the day off with pancakes and presents and continued the fun with church, lunch at home, a water fight, mini golf, supper at Red Robin's and a shopping trip at Target.  Before bed Sam told us it was the best birthday ever!

Presents!

A break in the water fight for hotdogs and watermelon.

The crew is ready to go!

Happy birthday six year old!

They didn't charge us for Eliza but gave her a club and ball...and she held them tight the entire time.

Cole had an interesting technique

Believe it or not we were not the slowest group.  We frequently found ourselves waiting for the group ahead of us.

Her favorite part of the game

He made it the whole 18 holes and still had a smile on this face.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
