I knew we were in trouble when Cole tried to stand in the tub and then collapsed.
About half an hour earlier he had been playing outside with Dad, Sam and some neighborhood kids. I heard him come in crying when I was putting Eliza to sleep and after settling her in went to investigate. He was on our bed and clearly very uncomfortable. He had been trying to jump and spin simultaneously outside and landed on a root on one of his jumps and hurt himself. Drew brought him in hoping the pain would wear off but even after putting him in the tub after he insisted on having his evening bath it was clear something was not right. We debated if we should take him in or if he just needed to sleep it off, however, when he tried to stand up to wash himself in the tub he collapsed. It was clear a trip to the ER was in order.
It was decided that Drew would take Cole to Evergreen while I stayed home with the other two. Apparently they had a hoot at the ER playing Angry Birds Star Wars (imitating Darth Piggy) while I did my 'ugly' cry at home waiting for news (Momma cried way more than Cole).
I kept praying that his leg wasn't broken even though I knew deep down that it was. After hearing it was broken I prayed it wasn't his tibia even though deep down I knew it was. After hearing it was the tibia I prayed he wouldn't need surgery which thankfully he does not. I didn't think to pray that the break wouldn't affect his growth plate but thankfully that is not a concern either.
So now our plans are changing. Almost daily trips to the parks are on hold. Swimming lessons are canceled. Birthday party at the Little Gym is canceled and we will be praying that the cast can come off before our beach vacation in six weeks.
Cole has been INCREDIBLE throughout this whole process. He is just so darn tough. He has moments of pain but really works through them. The biggest issue we are having is the monkey does not like us helping him in the bathroom but he is starting to realize he needs the help. Tomorrow morning we will head to Children's and get his leg casted and have a chance to talk to the doctor more to see exactly what we are in for. We are incredibly thankful that less than 24 hours after the break Grammy was at our house to help out with our new dynamic and has been able to stay with Cole today while I took Sam to swimming. Until we know what things will look like with the cast we are trying to keep him pretty still.
I wouldn't have thought it would be so hard seeing him with a broken bone but I was a bit of an emotional wreak yesterday. Today though after a good sleep and seeing him able to find ways to entertain himself the process is a lot less daunting!

Home from the ER at 10:30 at night. The little monkey wanted his three books before bed, and of course after what he had been through he got them.
Cole is geting a lot of couch time these days - he loves to watch Madagascar
We brought down his little table for meals and activities. Sam has been pretty good with him (although I think at times he is jealous of all the attention). We put the monitor in Cole's room so we could hear him if he needed us and this morning we heard them chatting. Sam was asking how his leg was and then got out of bed and brought Cole a stack of books to read until they could get out of bed - so sweet.
Some time in the sun yesterday. However a few minutes after this photo he cried saying he wanted to walk like me and Sam. He also could not understand why he couldn't ride his bike
This kid is a trooper - my little superhero.
