It's Green Now!

We got an updated cast today - and this time it is green!

We went into Children's this AM and they took another x ray of Cole's leg.  They were pleased that the bone hasn't shifted and as a result they overlayed his cast to close up the split they had previously made to accommodate swelling.

Cole was such a trooper.  He really is doing so well with all of this.  Much better than mamma.  The doctor gave us an appointment three weeks out for his cast removal.  Then it appears Cole will have to be in a boot for an additional two weeks.  We are so thankful that we can get the cast off before our beach vacation with friends - cast and sand do not mix!  The doctor said with the boot Cole will be able to take it off to muck in the sand or water - whew!

Cole has permission to bear weight on his leg right now but he is very hesitant and wants to be carried. I am hoping he can become a bit more mobile soon as my back is killing me...this boy is heavy!  Right now if he really wants to move around by himself he is crawling / scooting around the house dragging his leg behind him.  It is kind of cute and pathetic all at the same time!

Now that he has an official cast though we had to have a little fun signing it.  He is excited to get more signatures over the next few weeks.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
