Eliza's Dedication

This past weekend we had the honor of dedicating Eliza at our church.  Sam and Cole's dedications were so special and important to us and our little girl's was no exception.  We were thrilled to have Grandma, Grandpa, Oma and Uncle Chris, Tante Corina along with cousins Anika, Jonas and Mathea come to help us celebrate Eliza's special day.

We were the only family dedicating a child at the 9AM service so it was kind of nice as it made the dedication a bit more personal.  Usually Eliza naps during the service so it was a bit of a stretch to try to keep her awake but she managed and was perfect on stage...not a peep!  The boys came up with us too and were great...albeit a little overwhelmed with all the lights and people!

After we had everyone back to our house to visit and let the kids play.  The kiddos got along great and it was funny to see how they 'paired off'.  Anika was a great 'babysitter' to Eliza and took such good care of her.  Sam and Jonas spent the entire afternoon building Legos and we barely heard a peep from them and the two monkeys, Cole and Mathea we seen a few times rolling and wrestling on the floor with each other.

We feel so strongly about our children's dedications and feel it is an important step as parents to dedicate them to the Lord and promise to do our best to raise them to know and follow God.  Something our church does that is really special is they send them a letter - to be opened on the 13th birthday to remind them of their dedication and encourage them in their walk with God.  Cole received one of these letters almost exactly two years ago and Eliza got hers today.  As we had Sam dedicated in PA he didn't get one of these letters and I often think we will have to make one for him as well.

With each child we were given the task of finding a verse for them.  This is the one we chose for Eliza. It just seems so perfect for her.

9. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God.

All ready for her big morning

 Front and center

It was impossible to get a good family shot.  Cole was being goofy and Sam wouldn't open his eyes.  This was the best we could get...

The kids cooperated much better for the grandparents.

Sweet Eliza

The kiddos.  Such a cute group!

We had one shot with the timer.  Other than Eliza screaming on the couch...not too bad.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
