Six Months, 1 week

As the title indicates, I am a week behind on Eliza's six month update.  However, better late than never!

It is hard to believe the little munchkin is six months old already.  We had her wellness appointment today and she continue to grow like a champ.  She weighed in at 17 lbs 14 oz which is in the 75th - 90th percentile and is 26.5 inches long (75th percentile). She was so good at her appointment and was a champ for her vaccination.  In fact, she just might have shed less tears than her older two brothers who also each got a poke themselves.

She is just so fun to have around.  She seems to be engaging more every day and has such a funny little personality.  She is a pretty smiley little thing until I try to get a picture of her...then she puts on her serious face.  She giggles....a lot.  Mostly at her brothers as they are bouncing around the house.

She has been working her way into solids now for a few weeks.  The boys were ferocious eaters but she  definitely is a little more picky and is much more interested in our food than any puree I whip up for her.  This past weekend Oma reminded me about our little mesh feeder and I have been using that for Eliza this week so she can feed herself and she is beyond thrilled with it!

She is a strong little thing and has almost perfected her sitting.  She can completely balance herself and straighten her back for quite a while but then will suddenly flop over.  I don't leave her alone to sit but suspect in the next couple of weeks she could just sit and play on the floor with her brothers.  We are also having to watch her more now as she is a grabber....and everything is fair game.  She was sitting close to Sam as he built with Legos a few days ago and he put his project down for a second and before you knew it she had snapped it up.  Then yesterday Cole was carrying around a branch and suddenly, it was gone.  He looked up to find that she has snatched it right out of his hands while hanging out in the carrier!  She is fast!

Eliza is developing quite a list of favorites.  It is so cute to see her mind working and having little 'opinions'  Currently she LOVES bouncing in a jumperoo we borrowed from friends, playing peekaboo, trying to grab for Jasper, watching her brothers, dancing in front of the mirror and her bath time.  She is also loving reading Goodnight Moon before bed, drinking water from a cup, squeaking her Sophie the giraffe,  listening to her Scout singing puppy, and carrying around her little chewing rings.

We just love her to bits and are enjoying watching her continue to grow.  Here are a few more pictures of our little six month old taken over Easter - with that cute little serious face.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
