We Made Our Rounds

It was such a last minute decision for us to go back to Calgary that I still can't believe we managed to pull if off.  Drew had been traveling a lot for work the past month but they were pretty short stints - one night in New York here, a couple days in Chicago there...no big deal.  However, his upcoming trip to Atlanta had been looming on my radar for awhile.  He was supposed to be gone for 6-7 days that included being gone over the weekend (I can handle the weekly travel but losing Daddy on a weekend is crummy!)  Suddenly the idea dawned on me - what if Drew could drive us to Calgary and then fly in and out of there for his trip and drive us home after?  With that the plans were quickly made and my amazing husband happily agreed to take a couple days off to drive us up north and put up with the hassle of having to take less convenient flights in and out of Calgary to help make his time away easier on all of us.

And easier it was!  The time away from Daddy went by much faster for the boys and I as we were distracted by all sorts of fun things.  We didn't do anything 'fancy' (and I barely took any photos of our trip) but we just enjoyed seeing all of our family and friends and having a nice change of scenery.  We...

- Had lots of suppers with Grandpa, learned how to play air hockey and croquet, and had fun at the park
- Had multiple trips to the park with Grandma and enjoyed playing with new bubble blowers on the deck,
- Played at Grammy's house, made smores, collected bugs and ate at Y2K (our favorite Vietnamese restaurant)
- Spent a morning with my cousin Roberta and her children playing in their tree house
- Went to the park with my friend Michelle and her two girls.
- Spent a morning catching up with my friend (and Maid of Honor) Catherine and snuggled her new baby girl while our boys played together
- Played and had lunch with my friend Jessica and her three cuties.

The boys loved every minute and at night when Grandma and I tucked them into bed they were exhausted. Before we knew it Daddy was home and got to join in the festivities by catching up with my mom and his, hanging out with all of our friends at a BBQ on Friday night and golfing with the boys on Saturday morning.  Yup, a last minute trip to Calgary was a pretty good idea if I do say so myself!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
