Our Three Year Old Boy

We left Washington State with a two year old and returned with a three year old. Wow. Has it really been three years already? We were thrilled that Sam was able to celebrate with family and his "Calgary friends." He had a great time being the center of attention.

Sam is such a lovely little boy. He is just so darn social. When we are out he talks to everyone and engages them in conversation (much different than the baby who used to cry if someone looked at him!) His imagination has just exploded and it is so fun to listen to his elaborate play scenarios. He loves to read and soaks in every word. He has most of his books memorized and takes great pleasure in cuddling up in bed with Cole and "reading" his books to his little brother. Sam adores playing outside, going to the park, riding his new run bike, having play dates with his friends, going for walks, and snuggling his little brother. He is eager to learn new things, has a better memory than either of his parents and has a genuine concern and care for others.

What a privilege to watch this little boy grow, learn and develop. We are truly blessed. Happy Birthday Sam.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
