Chatterbox

The sound of Cole's "chattering" fills our house these days. I just love when little ones begin to realize they can be part of the conversation too. It seemed like overnight Cole discovered his voice and is piecing together so many ways to communicate. Of course, I am sure we are the only ones who could understand his little 'language'. Here are some of our favorites.

Mama and Dada - how could those not be our favorites!
Hi - he will say this to anyone who listens
Uh Oh - so cute!
Hat - which is excitedly squeals anytime he sees someone with a hat
Bye bye - While waving his cute chubby little hand
Baba (baby) - Cole adores little babies and will twist his way out of my arms to get to one.
Bu - (Buzz Lightyear) I am still shocked this was more established in his vocab before mama.
Dee - (Woody) You can tell we are on a Toy Story kick in this house
Hot - followed by an attempt to blow on his food.
Shhhh- (Shoes) - one of his favorites as it usually means we are going to do something fun!
See - (Paci)
Da dee (Doggie) - He loves his four legged friend
Mmmm (yummy)
A pa - (Airplane) - he follows this with his hands lifted in the air saying "aaaaa" as if he is flying
Ba - (balloons, bubbles, book or banana) He likes to interpret the word 'ba' in a variety of ways!
Tee - (toast) - his morning breakfast request

It seems every day he is coming up with another way to get our attention and make his desires known. What a fun time!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
