A Special Visitor

Sam decided this week that it was time to say hello to a very special visitor, the Paci Fairy. Now Sam has loved his paci's forever and always had them hidden under his pillow so they would always be ready for nap and night. However, a couple of days ago he decided he was ready to give them up.

It all started a few weeks ago. I told him about the paci fairy and how they take your paci's in the night, take them somewhere safe and leave you a special toy. He was interested but when asked if he wanted to have the paci fairy come he said, "no, I want to keep my paci's but I would like a new toy please." ha ha....funny kid.

Anyways, a couple of nights ago he brought up the paci fairy again and upon asking if he wanted to leave his paci's and get a toy he said "yes!". He was so excited for the fairy to come that as were were saying goodnight to him he was yelling "hurry hurry let me go to sleep so the paci fairy can come!"

And so now Sam is paci free. He awoke the next morning to find some pretty cool toys by his bed (good thing it is close to Christmas, the paci fairy had a good stock pile of fun toys). He has done great, not a peep at night and only a little "I miss my paci" comment at nap. Yet again, our little guy is growing up!

Here is a picture of Sam playing with his new toys. He loves them and they amused him all day yesterday. For some reason, toys from the paci fairy are way cooler than toys from mom and dad.

Bravo Sam, you are brave and amazing. And so like your Mommy. Love from Grandma.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
