Seattle Snow

It seems like just yesterday that it looked like this outside....

And today it looks like this!

We woke up to snow! Lots of snow (at least lots of snow for Seattle!) It was beautiful out and big snowflakes continued to fall throughout the day. I think what made it even better was Drew has taken the week off so he didn't have to worry about a crazy commute or dealing with all those crazy drivers that panic the minute they see the white stuff. Sam had a great time throwing snowballs with Daddy outside today. As we thought back, this really is his first time playing in the snow. I don't imagine he will always get snow here in Seattle so we need to make sure we take advantage of it while we have it. Last year, we didn't see snow here at all - in fact, Sam didn't even own a winter jacket. Luckily for us, the jacket I ordered online for him for our trip back to Calgary arrived a couple of days ago - just in time!

Here in North Dakota we are hearing about the storm system coming our way. They showed the weather map and how it was building up in your part of the world and now I can see they weren't lying!!! The only problem is, by the time it gets here it will have built into a huge storm and we will be digging out big time! It will be here just in time for Thanksgiving travel. UGH! ML

I was just thinking about how we should take the boys to the snow, but maybe we'll wait until next year so Ollie will enjoy it too. It's amazing how winter and fall are both so beautiful, but in such a completely different way. Enjoy the snow!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
