The Hilton Waikoloa

When we first found the boys and I would be going with Drew to a conference in Hawaii, we planned on staying at the hotel that Drew had to work at - the Hilton Waikoloa. It is a pretty cool hotel - over 64 acres of fun! However, as our trip drew close, we kept thinking about the sleeping logistics of two boys and opted to rent a condo in a complex next door- walking distance to the hotel for Drew and a lot more space to entertain two kiddos!

However, we needed to make sure we checked out the hotel during our stay and try to enjoy a few of the little perks! As it is so big, it has a tram and boat system to take you around the hotel and that in itself for a little boy is a fun adventure. It really would have been a great place to stay if the boys were a little older...who knows...maybe one day if we ever return to the Big Island!

The Hilton had a Dolphin enclosure where you could swim with them. Sam loved watching them do their tricks! He desperately wanted to swim with them like the other people were!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
