Big Boy Bed

We weren't intending to bite the bullet and put Sam in a big boy bed. There so much going on in our lives right now with a new baby on the way and a big move that we figured we would wait until the dust cleared to start the transition. However Sam had other plans...

On Monday night he woke up early in the morning completely hysterical. I went in and sat with him for quite awhile waiting for him to settle down. After it seemed he was settled, I quietly tip toed back into my room. The moment I crawled into bed, the screaming began again. Just as I was uttering a tired sigh we heard the thud.

Sam had thrown himself out of his crib in pursuit of me. Although we did not see it, he is not the most graceful climber and we can only imagine what it would have looked like to see him going over the rails. After some back and forth, we decided we were lucky he wasn't hurt this time and we didn't want to wait to see if we would get lucky again if he chose to escape again.

As we are not prepared at all for him to have a big kid room (again...we were waiting for the move). His crib mattress is now on the floor. However, Sam is thrilled about it. He talks about it all the time and now wants to read his books in his 'big boy bed' and often runs in there throughout the day to pretend to 'sleep'. The first night literally went off without a hitch and we are hoping tonight is the same. Maybe this is a good thing...one less transition to accomplish with a baby in tow.

Here are some pics of him showing off his new arrangement. The lighting is bad and if you look closely you can see the shadow of his crib on his new bed. Although the transition seems to be going great we are a little apprehensive....we will wait a few more days to dismantle the crib.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
